Today we’d like to introduce you to Chavvone Graham.
Hi Chavvone, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a writer, this journey has not been easy! I started off writing stage plays in collaboration with my sisters-in-law in a small writing circle we called “SisTa’s n da struggle”. In this writing circle, we shared our weekly journals, story ideas and documentaries of inspiring women and men. This small yet fulfilling fellowship inspired me to pick up my pen and begin to put these crazy thoughts that run through my head, on paper. I must admit, as a writer…when life happens, I tend to put the pen down. Adversity can and has taken me off course at times. When I do suck up the tears and wipe away the snot…God still gives me a story to tell. I have had the honor to produce two stage plays, one being Behind Every Man, which was co-written by Rochelle Johnson, the other, Big Boys Do Cry which were both sold-out shows. I recently used my mustard seed of faith and shot my first feature film Congress & Cali, which premiered in Inglewood California.
Today, I am more determined than ever to continue. Life will always have ups and downs, my job is to continue to do what God has called me to do. My ministry is in telling a story…stories that God has given me in order to help, motivate, change, and hopefully inspire.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Challenges I have faced has taken me out of focus on my writing journey. Grief of losing my Niece, Aunt, and my best friend and Mother all in an 18 months span sent me into a very dark place. Through prayer, support, and the village God has placed in my life, and the love and support of my significant other and my amazing children are the absolute only reason I am able to continue on my writing journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Employee with Kaiser Permante, a position I have been blessed with for over 16years as a Medical Claims Examiner, I am now pursuing a Professional career in writing.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I am sure that the entertainment will be here for a lifetime. I am excited about the diversity we now see in film and television. As a writer, I feel that my stories will have a platform.
