Check Out Alexis Islas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Islas.

Hi Alexis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Alexis (Lexi), and I’m a self-taught makeup artist. Looking back, I had no idea I would enjoy doing makeup as much as I do now. It’s more than makeup, it’s a way of letting my creativity run its course. I started playing around with makeup and trying to understand the ‘HOW TO’. How to apply this, how to blend this with that, how to even start?! lol. Well. it all started with a simple six-shade eyeshadow palette. I’m still nowhere near where I want to be in my makeup journey but one day I will make it my career. Until then, I’ll keep pushing myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, at times I feel like giving up. Some days I have no creativity and other days I dwell on not having clients or projects/collabs. But I look at how far I’ve come and the amazing people I’ve worked with along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a self-taught makeup artist from the Inland Empire but travel to Orange County and Los Angels frequently for my clients. I’m known for creative, fun, bright makeup looks; such as rave/festival makeup. Although my favorite looks to create are full of color, I enjoy enhancing my client’s natural beauty. I’m nowhere near where I want to be in my makeup journey but I am forever grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way. From designers, photographers, directors, friends, family and all the talented individuals I’ve met in these 3-4 years. A big THANK YOU to all who believe in me because when I felt like giving up opportunities come knocking.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Ahh, the city. A beautiful but crowded place to be. What I like most about this city is the acceptance for creative minds to be themselves. Oh, and definitely the variety of food there is! As a foodie, I enjoy traveling to the city and trying new dishes and drinks.
