Check Out Jose Ramos’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Ramos.

Hi Jose, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing at the age of seven when I remember watching MTV music videos. Growing up with a Hispanic family music was always playing so I was always dancing imitating what I saw on tv. Attending summer camps opened my eyes to dance and made me realize I loved it a lot. Shortly after, I found the art of choreography and will make up talent shows, sweet 15s for everyone. With the hustle, training, eventually I continued to dance through high school and college where I made a decision to fully persue my career in dance! My professional career was taken to the next level when I became the Lead Choreographer for rising Hip-Hop star Lil Mama. I then went on to star in Rihanna’s “Rudeboy “ video which landed me an assistant choreography credit for her last girl on earth tour! I then went to choreograph for various recording artists such as Chris Brown, Ciara and Beyoncé’s “Yonce” for the On the run tour, Nicki Minaj Billboard music awards and I heart performance, Diddy’s Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, and contributing choreography for Jennifer Lopez at the American Music Awards recently working with French Monatana, Megan Thee Stallion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has never been a smooth ride. I don’t think we as people learn valuable lessons if we don’t go through trials and tribulations. I had to fail a couple of times, not get booked, dropped from my agent to understand the business, How it works and how to work around it without it consuming my life but still managing it so that I can have a career. Losing my mother was the biggest hurdle in my life thus far and I still have my moments. Of course, my will to persevere has kept me motivated to carry the legacy she left behind!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional choreographer, instructor, movement coach and I specialize in the development and or creation of choreography for artists and or projects. I am known for my eccentric grooves and particular movement. I am most proud of publishing my first children’s book, what’s sets me apart from others is my style!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Before I moved to LA, I risked it all dropped out of college / moved back to NYC then left to LA with less than $2k. I believe in growth and the only way to do that is to confront the unknown. The more lessons you learn, the smarter and more wisdom you will have which is needed in this very so changing industry!
