Check Out Jaye Fleur’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaye Fleur.

Hi Jaye, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started dressing myself at the age of two. My mother would set out my uniform on the bed and I would grab matching accessories, down to the socks. I truly believe the field of fashion was meant for me. My mother is a fashion designer as well, so she has a lot of influence over me. She bought me my first sketchbook when I was 12 and I have never strayed too far from it, even when I believed that I should focus on finding a career that would make me more money consistently, but it just never worked out for me. I always went back to it. Everything about me screams fashion. It is more than a trend for me, I live and breathe Fashion. My mother and sister have been my rocks since forever, no matter how far I fall they are always there to help me get back up and get back on track. Especially my sister Akintoye, she’s my best friend. I also have to show gratitude to my closest friends, they know who they are. I have a strong support group around me. It is my therapy.

On November 5, 2020, I tried to take my life, I was in a very dark place mentally and I was sent against my will to a mental hospital for seven days, I had no access to visitors, I barely spoke to friends and family, I had no access to social media and I couldn’t finish my school work (I was in school at the time for my masters in business). While I was there, I decided to weed out what the negatives and positives were in my life and fashion was what made me happy. So when I got out of the hospital, I dropped out of business school and started the process to enroll in fashion school, I started finalizing my collections for the year of 2021 and actually have been taking my craft seriously and I see my clientele growing. I currently do custom tee shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies, but have been working and upscaling my brand. So definitely be on the lookout.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a fashion designer is not for the weak, lol. Man is it stressful, I had to recently fire my manufacturer because it was just too much chaos and lies. I will ALWAYS choose my peace. So I won’t have a collection to put out for Spring 2021, but I will have a collection to put out every season following this coming spring. I have scrapped a lot of designs, rebranded plenty of times and have definitely have had plenty of other failures, huge financial losses, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I can’t exactly remember where I heard this but, “Your gift will make room for you” and every time I feel like giving up, I remember this quote. Nothing good comes easily, so work hard for what you want and for what makes you happy, the money will come, don’t worry about that. I am currently working on my website and Instagram page, so be on the lookout for that. You can find out more about my growing brand and crazy personality through my personal Twitter @JayeFleur1.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a fashion designer and stylist. I specialize in bringing out my client’s personalities through their outfits. I am known for always being that overdressed friend and also just dressing differently. When people ask where I pull my outfit ideas from, I always say either Rihanna or however I feel at the moment, so I could be going the grocery store and feel like wearing sandal heels and a dress, all because I FEEL like it. I don’t dress for others, I dress for myself and thats what really sets me apart from others. I do not stick to the status quo. I am most proud of truly discovering my place within fashion. For so long, I felt lost until I forced myself to realize that looking good made me feel good. Helping people enhance their beauty and confidence just by looking good changed my heart for the greater. I want to do that for everyone.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next five years, I feel that I will own my own warehouse and manufacturer and my brand will be known worldwide. I feel like my mark in the fashion industry will change the fashion world forever. I can’t see how just yet… but you know that feeling you get in your gut… like you just know for certain what you feel is right, thats how I feel… I know I’m going to be known, so I’m preparing myself for it now.
