Check Out Holli Thomas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holli Thomas.

Hi Holli, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started loving fashion, textiles and decoration, especially vintage and antique. I opened three vintage furniture stores, two in orange county and one in Los Angeles on 3rd street. I offered custom design services at the stores and started making curtains and pillows for interior designers. This leads me to closing my shop and making drapery, bedding, anything with fabric really.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road mostly due to the economy and how it affects the home industry. The last ten years have been wonderful. Being a business owner/entrepreneur/creative, you need to be able to morph and reinvent yourself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I own a drapery workroom. I specialize in custom window treatments. For the most part, I work with interior designers and bring their vision to life. I also work with homeowners that find me through referral from long-standing clients. What I love about my profession is that it is different every day. Different fabrics, challenging windows, the elements… all sorts of things go into figuring out what the best solution is. There is also the drapery hardware component that needs to be designed as well… What sets me apart from others is a couple of things. All of my work is hand finished. Hand-stitched hems and leading edges. Most drapery is done with an industrial blind hemmer. I also participate in the entire process. I measure, quote, fabricate and am present at the installation, putting the finishing touches, usually steam and jushing, on the finished product.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to have an assistant, someone who loves windows as much as I do, and the ability to transform them.
