Check out Hayley Calassa’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Calassa.

Hayley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started taking fine art classes when I was probably three years old and couldn’t get enough! I developed an affinity for still life paintings of fruit that gets me through any creative block I run into. I played tuba at Hart High School which was super demanding, but that’s also where I found my passion for graphic arts and screen printing. I would love to own my own print shop and make art for the masses, but for now, I’m enrolled at Pasadena City College trying to soak up knowledge and get my degree!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Totally random, I make art that I like to look at. I love to hear other’s interpretations mostly because I can steal a good one to use. My art is not that deep, but I wish it was! I’m inspired by so many artists from all over time, but some of my very favorites are Cezanne and Matisse.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Life as an artist is one you choose; you can either be commissioned by the church forever or never sell a painting in your life and everywhere in-between. Artists can only make as much art as they can afford so support them, and your small and local businesses. That’s how you get a place with tons of creative food and beautiful views and such.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Right now I post everything I make to my Instagram (@hayleycalassaart) where I just put super cool T-shirts on sale!! But I plan on being on other social media platforms and in galleries and all over the place soon!
