Check Out GiGi Garcia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to GiGi Garcia.

Hi GiGi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I opened “It Takes a Village Kids” in 2012 because I felt there was a need for cool, hip, beautiful boutique clothing for babies and kids in the Montrose/Glendale/Pasadena area. I have extensive retail experience and a creative eye. I thought I could use that talent to bring together a unique kid’s boutique. The lines that we carry are not found in a big box store. I want you to walk in the boutique and find something different that gives children confidence. If you look good, you feel good. ITAV Kids is now in its 9th year and has been recognized by the community as “The Finest Children’s Boutique” by local CV Weekly readers for seven years. We carry sizes NB-14y in clothing along with awesome gifts and accessories. Our clothing lines are from Europe, Canada and the USA. You can find me in the shop almost every day of the week. I believe in working the business myself to learn the communities needs and to nurture and grow my own business. I live and work in Glendale. I am married and have three children. I was a regional theatrical stage manager for 20 years.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The pandemic was our biggest challenge. We were forced to close for three months during our 2nd busiest season, and many folks stayed home for many months. We learned to adapt (added website) and many customers did support us for curbside shopping, phone orders and facetime shopping. In 2021, we had shipping problems. Spring shipments were late also due to the pandemic, however, our customers have always found a way to be supportive.  It takes a Village!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do, what are you most proud of?
I am proud that I worked as a union stage manager for 20 years. I am proud that I was able to open a business and keep it successful for nine years. I am different because I have a creative eye and I can help customers put together gifts/outfits for any occasion and or photo shoots and runway shows. Proud of my kids.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Hanging out with my cousins was a favorite pastime.
