Meet Dorian Electra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorian Electra.

Dorian, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a pop musician, performer, and I direct and style my own music videos. I got my start in music in high school and college making educational songs and music videos for school projects and for fun. I eventually started getting grants to make these for different topics. Then in 2016, I teamed up with Refinery29 to create a series of original pop songs and music videos about the history of sexuality and gender and I would say that marks the beginning of me really seriously making music and pursuing a career as an artist.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make pop music. I identify as queer and gender-fluid, and for me, that really impacts my music and the kinds of things I’m interested in making music about and the communities I’m interested in making and performing my music for, specifically the queer community.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think it’s essential to be happy with the art you’re creating and to do it for yourself but also it’s really important to me to be connected to an audience and to make things that hopefully resonate with them as well and make them happy. 🙂 Having a balance of both feels great, and to me, is more important than traditional commercial or financial success.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
