Check out Dominique Wu’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Wu.

Dominique, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in Taiwan. When I was in Taiwan, I learned a lot of fine art skills including water color, sketch, oil paintings, Chinese traditional paintings & Chinese calligraphy. I got my fine art degree in the best fine art school in Taiwan – National Taiwan Normal University before getting government scholarship studying graphic design in Art Center College of design (2008-2011).

After graduating from Art Center, I was a graphic designer working in branding, marketing, web & app design in professional industry for 7+ years.

When I was in Taiwan back in 2013, I got a chance to teach elementary students in Taiwan as a substitute teacher. During that time, I was teaching art to those little kids. However, no kid had the patient sitting on the chair listen to me. Everyone wanted to go out and kicked the balls.

So, I came up with the idea of a children story – “Green Bean Boy’s Adventure” in order to keep their attention. Unexpectedly, all the kids were so excited about the story.

“What’s next?” the kids asked,
“I will tell you tomorrow.” I said mysteriously.

Thanks to those kids, I picked up my drawing skills and let my imaginations went wild again.

Green Bean Boy’s Adventure is a story that describes a little green bean boy – the son of the star, is having a great adventure in an amazing planet. He went to the most amazing place, made a lot of amazing friends, knocked out a lot of monsters and solving a lot of problems. He is brave, full of wisdom, tenacious and kind to people. At the end, he meets his love – Red Bean and build their own universe together.

It is a cool concept and I am still working on it and trying to make this a game. Hope in the future, everyone can enjoy having fun with Green Bean Boy:)

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create both fine art & digital commercial art such as web & app design @Hummingbirdsday. I came to USA on my own when I was 23 years old. At that time, I have already had a dream which is – No matter what type of work I am going to do, I want to integrate all the fields – literature, art, design, science, education, technology, philosophy & psychology… and inspire people every day.

That’s why Hummingbirds day was created. As for the commercial side, Hummingbirds day is an UX/UI design studio which helps companies solve their branding, marketing, crowdfunding problem in an innovative way. However, as for the inspiring side, I listen, think, create and then inspire people every day through social medias such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & Twitter. I created “Hummingbird Spirit” posts nearly every week showing what types of good books I read (art, children’s books, design, game, self-improvement, business, UX/UI…) to inspire people.

My goal for Hummingbirds day is to mingle all the fields and create an innovative evolution for our future. By creating great UX/UI design for different technologies, everyone can create nearly everything as long as his / her dares to dream. Hopefully my work wouldn’t bore you too much and wish we can make the world an innovative wonderland:)

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
It is important to do something which make the world a better place. I believe it is harder to be kind than be smart. There are so many talented people out there, but what makes a great artist is a good heart & bring good stuff to people -bring positive messages rather than negative one & inspiring people rather than depressing them.

Then the second one is – once you are motivated by bringing the positive message to the world (no matter what kind of art you are doing), you will know what to do next, just like the First Law of Newton – “An object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction…”.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
