Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Lopez.
Hi Cynthia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My baking journey began as a kid, I’ve always enjoyed to bake. I was always the one to bake the birthday cakes for friends & family. But it was just a hobby I enjoyed, I never took it too serious. My vegan journey, however, began in 2017 & one of the hardest parts of the transition was finding vegan baked goods in my area. I was turned off by the idea of having to drive into LA & deal with parking situations just to get some good, vegan cake. So, I started to teach myself how to bake vegan! After a while, I was getting pretty good on the baking end & I was finding I was more & more interested in the creative end as well. All I wanted to do was make beautiful, vegan cakes! My family really started to push me to selling them in my area. I was hesitant, but I figured I couldn’t be the only one who was in need of vegan cakes in the area. In November of 2019, I officially started Cake It Vegan. I did really well during that first holiday season. And though a big chunk of my business journey has been during the pandemic, I’m so happy with how my business has grow & all of the people who continue to support me & my business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is hard! It’s really scary & it’s really demanding. You can have really great days where you feel like you’re killing it & other days you’re full of doubt & worry. But everything is a learning experience & you have to push through the struggles. On top of that, I started my business just before the pandemic hit. In February 2020, I had a really success pop-up! I was so excited for the next one & to be a part of various different vending events. But all of that was canceled & I had to figure out what I can do to get myself out there. That was really tough & honestly, really discouraging. But I just kept at it by staying active on Instagram & having my own sales. Thankfully I’ve build a nice clientele & have reached more people than I could’ve imagined.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a baker! A VEGAN baker! I make cakes & cupcakes that’s are 100% vegan & made w high quality, organic ingredients. I also offer gluten-free, soy-free & sugar-free options. There isn’t a lot of vegan representation in my area & I’m so proud to be able to offer these options to the people of my community!
What makes you happy?
If you browse through my Instagram a few times, I’ve said that cake is never JUST a cake. I understand how important a cake can be to someone. It may sound silly but I take it very seriously! From it simply bringing a smile to someone’s face (because who doesn’t love cake!) to the finishing touch to a beautiful party, the cake is so important! When someone reaches out to order a cake, I feel a huge responsibility. From that moment, I know that I have to give my all to that cake & create something that will make my customer happy. The happiness I receive in return is what brings me so much happiness! When people take the time to send me a message & tell me how happy they are with their cake or how much they enjoyed it, that’s what makes me happy.
