Check out Chelsea Du’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Du.

Chelsea, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As a kid, I doodled a lot of characters from the video games I played. But I only started to get into art when I posted what I drew online and becoming involved with the artists within the community for those video games. Being surrounded by other artists who were really encouraging but also better than I really gave me the drive to improve, that drive led me to look for resources online, discovering that there was a career that existed where you could draw for games for a living made me commit to being an artist.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is primarily illustrations and designs of landscapes, characters and scenes from fictional worlds that I come up with. I work digitally using Wacom tablets and photoshop, sometimes an iPad for sketching.

I make art because it’s my outlet for self-expression, my career and what pays the bills, but it is also my tool to generate greater queer representation in media. I just hope people enjoy seeing my art and it inspires their imagination and it can be something they can identify with.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Try to find a community of other like-minded artists. They can help support you emotionally or help give you the drive to focus on your artwork, and if they are in the area, you can rely on them for help when the need arises.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is available on my website at ishime.art, my artstation ishutani.artstation.com and twitter @ishu_tani.
You can support my work by following me on Twitter and sharing it with others who you think would enjoy what I do.
