Today we’d like to introduce you to Cara Feder.
Cara, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always enjoyed creating art but I didn’t realize I wanted to peruse a career as an artist until this past year. I think you have to do a lot of what you don’t like to figure out what you do like. I’ve taken a few painting classes here and there as a kid and also a traditional course at San Francisco city college but, my painting style is more abstract now and I like the freedom it gives me. I love experiencing different things and exposing myself to other perspectives in order to produce new content. I think what I paint is a direct result of what I see and hear and think, so I choose carefully what and who I surround myself with.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint what is considered to be abstract paintings. I work with oil paints, pastels, and experiment with different acrylic and oil paint mediums for texture. My paintings explore the concept of freedom and a deepening of self-trust. I paint intuitively and allow each painting to unfold naturally. Each painting reminds me of what was going on in my life while I painted it, it’s very personal to me. I hope people can feel what I felt and connect to it on some level. Art is a great outlet to express yourself, it’s a beautiful form of communication to me. All in all I paint because it’s what I love to do and when I feel the most at peace with myself.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I can’t speak for other artists but for me it’s trusting myself and not judging my work. I think believing in yourself is the most important thing because fear will stop you from even trying. I think people try really hard to make themselves stand out as an artist but if you just paint what feels right it ends up being original.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am always looking to exhibit and show my work to reach a wider audience. I usually post to let people know about upcoming shows on Instagram: Carafeder.paintings and you can also view my work on my website https://carafeder.wixsite.com/website
