Check Out Alexander King’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander King.

Hi Alexander, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I spent years knowing that I wanted to create something for myself and others. I am an Aquarian with humanitarianism ALL throughout my chart. I spent a lot of my first few years in LA giving back to the SkidRow community with organic homecooked meals. Even then something internal was missing, I wanted to do more. I was always good at everything but never great at something.

I started creating stories that pushed my thoughts and my own introspective work. This fed me for a long time until it wasn’t enough. I needed to do more. I saw that there was a HUGE gap in LGBTQIA+ content. Nothing really just seemed right, there was a lack of content that was available and even less content that I could relate to. I just couldn’t resonate with it. And it just wasn’t me-I was for sure that I wasn’t alone in this. During a conversation with a friend, she was just like go and create your own stuff. And that’s how Queerious was born. After I hung up the phone with her, I wrote a mini web-series that night, Queerious Thw Show. I sent it to her the next day and she was shocked. She said it was really good and the world needed to see it. So I began the preproduction with no budget at all. Not expecting anything from this, I was amazed to see the support. I found myself being like “wow, people are drawn to my work.” After releasing Queerious The Show on Youtube, we were hitting big numbers fast. Within weeks we hit about 10k subscribers on YouTube, within five months we hit a million views. My DM’s were full of people thanking me for creating real content that better represents them.

From there, I rebranded Queerious as a platform for true LGBTQIA+ content. We were no longer just a show. The idea from Queerious The Show became Queerious TV (QTV) a media service provider and outlet that creates, produces + distributes true LBGTQIA+ content such as web series, short films, music videos + more. Representation matters for the LGBTQIA+ of color community and what best way to represent it? We take great pride in creating content that is a better representation of whom we are-in new and creative ways. My most recent project is a short film, SEVEN, where I wrote, directed, and produced. SEVEN will be available on Dec 7. SEVEN is a story of a beautiful tragic romance. Because of the success of Queerious The Show, I was able to pour into such a beautiful vulnerable project. This is my best work yet.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest struggle along the way has been budget/finances. I have poured my last into my work. I completely fund my own projects. Creating a show with NO budget was extremely challenging. But this is where I am the most thankful for my friends, cast, crew, partnerships, fans, and supporters. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do what I am doing. My most recent short film, SEVEN, was honestly the budget from my personal savings. This was a risk I was willing to take. With the right funding, I know my work could reach higher levels and fewer limitations. Until then, I will always figure it out because I am and will always be my first investment. If I don’t bank on me, I can’t expect someone else to. My work will show you what I can do with almost nothing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am Alexander King, most people know me simply as Lex. I am an independent filmmaker/director known for Queerious TV. I create content that is a better representation of those of color who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am most proud of myself for taking the leap and creating a platform that resonates with those of the community. My drive, creativity, push for greatness sets me apart. My willingness to overcome financial burdens to make sure I still create great content is honestly molding me for my career. We are a self/crowd funded project. If you are interested in supporting QTV please check us on at queerioustv.com for ways in which you can support. As an independent filmmaker, I get 100% creative freedom to create what I want, when I want. I create content that pushes thought processes. That takes the conversations deeper. My content that in reality has no gender. Real-life things that in reality has nothing to do with gender but more of the mind. I create content that simply makes you feel something. That is why I am different.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Please check out my new short film SEVEN available Dec. 7, 2020.
