Check Out Alex Hayward ’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Hayward.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I guess it unknowingly started in when I lived in Okinawa, Japan. I had gone there on orders in the Marine Corps and I truly had one goal, create my own hip hop dance team from scratch, perform and make a name for myself and the crew. In September 2018, I created my crew, around November I met IAmCiti which I didn’t know would influence my life in a major way at the time. Feb 2019, I had my first show with my team at Citi’s event. For the next six months, I was part of Citi’s circle where we hosted events and in the circle, we had many different elements and skillsets, all which were used to their advantages. Fast forward to today, I’m now doing the same thing Citi’s is doing, but in my own way. With my brand, I want to include as many talents in each event that makes sense. Feb 20, 2021 I hosted my very first Fashion Show at the Milk Room in Woodland Hills Los Angeles. I had 3 LA designers, Dj, and an independent artist perform. April 17, 2021 will be the same, but bigger and I’m excited to see what I can do in the future. My brand is going to have music festivals, art showings, more fashion shows, winter festivals, summer festivals. I want to be Coachella on steroids!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
So far, the only obstacle has been my own mind. When you plan something out so far and you put so much energy and excitement up in the beginning, you burn yourself out. So I’ve been struggling with that a bit, but I’ve been reading this book called Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday and that’s been getting me back in my groove slowly but surely for sure.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a US Marine. I am an 0671 Data Systems Administrator which means I work with computers and servers. I’m honestly not the biggest fan of the job, but because of it I was given crazy opportunities that I may not have been given had I not had that job. What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’m also a Corporals Course Instructor, meaning I teach Marines to be better than they were, to lead, to mentor and guide other Marines. Being able to be that role model and someone they’ll remember for the rest of their career is a huge honor to me. One thing that I feel separates me from other Marines is the fact that I’m a dancer. That’s something you hardly see. I feel like military life and the life of a creative are polar opposites in a way. You have a structured Marine on one hand and the other a free-spirited kid who just wants to express himself, you know?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people that know me don’t know that I can sing. I usually try to keep that one lowkey although I absolutely LOVE singing. I’m not sure why I get so shy about it, but the moment I allow myself to be heard and people start to rock with it, I can’t stop.
