Check Out Alex Aller’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Aller.

Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started off as a singer-songwriter and I had a bit of success signing to SONY Red, but pretty shortly after, I had decided to fully throw myself into a project I had been working on for four years prior. I was living in Brooklyn when I started Building You Up, the Novel & Soundtrack. I had an idea to write a coming-of-age story that talked about mental health and grief in a real way that was accessible to not just teens but adults who could look back on their youth too. Being a musician, it made perfect sense to me to combine the book with a soundtrack. When it comes to mental health, I think music can actually be a stronger medium when allowing yourself to feel certain blocked emotions. So here I am today, I just released Building You Up, the Novel & Soundtrack and it actually sold out last week so it’s back up for pre-sale.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think I have been pretty lucky actually. I’ve been through managers, labels, agents, friends, all that – but honestly, it’s the nature of making your art your business. You just keep going until you get it right. If you asked me two years ago, I probably would have had more to say, but I feel lucky for any struggle I went through. It was necessary for my personal story.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write songs & books that sometimes go together. I’m most proud of selling out of my first self-published novel and learning how to do everything it required of me. I hope people know me for that. But if they know me for something else, that’s OK too.

What does success mean to you?
Success is getting everything you have ever wanted and realizing that it doesn’t change your life that much. If you’re doing it for all the right reasons, that is.
