Art & Life with Ravell Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ravell Robinson.

Ravell, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My name is Ravell XIV Artisé Robinson… I am 31 and I was born and raised in Jackson Louisiana. I was introduced to art at around 3 years of age, or at least that is the earliest that I remember. I knew how to draw before I could even speak! I didn’t learn how to speak until I was 5. Fun fact: I was born 14 years to the day that Picasso died. I started painting in 2015, and I was introduced to Los Angeles in 2016. I still hold primary Residence in Jackson, but I frequent Los Angeles quite a bit. I guess you can say it’s my home away from home.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I love to create… whether that be by painting, drawing, or even sculpting. I feel like no matter which medium I use, I’m creating and giving life. What do I hope people take away from my art? I don’t want people to focus on what they see, I want people to focus on what they feel. It is easy to give someone a painting of an object, but I want to give people a vision of their emotions. That way they can truly create from their own perspective. That way they’re not forced to see anything, and they are able to create their own reality. Imagination is everything

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Being an artist from Louisiana, I would say that Los Angeles has a huge influence on artists today… it is like Paris of the early 1900’s. A refuge if I may, I believe that with the artistic movement of today especially within Los Angeles, and other art progressive cities in the United States… the life of an artist is much easier than it has ever been. Also with the progression of social media, the life of an artist is only limited by the imagination of the said artist.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
For now, the only places to view my art would be via my Instagram page. Or my website. Although I am thinking about some gallery spaces in Los Angeles.
