Art & Life with Nehemiah Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nehemiah Richardson.

Nehemiah , please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in Pasadena, California and have proudly remained here ever since. Raised by my father, once an aspiring musician, I grew up with an appreciation for the arts. After dabbling in music and film, I found my true passion in photography. The aspect of photography that I fell in love with is its ability to capture a single moment in time and to revisit that moment days, weeks, or even years later. Inspired by the people and stories around me, my mission is to document life and all that comes with it. In my own life I’ve faced many challenges of faith, relationships, and personal growth, but it’s in those moments that I’ve learned the most about myself. As a photographer, I’d like to share with the world the most beautiful, perfectly-imperfect stories, as those are where life truly takes place.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As an artist my goal is to capture timeless moments. Whether it’s a portrait, family photo, headshot, or architecture, I allow what’s in the frame to tell a story that can never be altered. Subjects of depth inspire me; their uniqueness transforms my photos into artwork. When people view my work, I hope they can appreciate the emotion communicated through my subject(s) and understand the passion behind my process.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Artist today have so many tools at their fingertips, making it easy to get a hold of “how-to materials”, share techniques, and give and receive feedback from industry peers. No longer do you have to attend lengthy seminars or attend school for several months to learn the basics, especially with photography.

The downside to this is the over saturation of the market, especially in the Los Angeles area. The challenge here is finding away to stand out and differentiate your work.

A way for a city to help local artist would be to eliminate the obstacles to creating art within the city; making easier to obtain affordable permits, coordinating opportunities for artist to show cast their work or creating public galleries for residents to see the talent that resides in their own backyard.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
