Art & Life with Nathan Taitano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Taitano.

Nathan, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My unique story begins on a beautiful island in the Pacific Ocean called Guam where music and arts are prominent amongst our older generations and youth. With the creative arts thriving during my elementary, middle school and high school days I was drawn to the wondrous world of creating music. With other hobbies cycling through as any youth would experience, there was always one thing the peaked my interest and had consistently kept me coming back.

Of course, it was the opportunity to sit behind my drum set and constantly learn new tunes by myself or with my friends. Playing music has always been my only way of expressing feelings, those that I cannot express through words, it has always guided me through the toughest obstacles in life and continues to enhance the positive things that come across my path. This is why I chose to immerse myself in my passion, and always surround myself with other creatives that share this same vision for the music or any kind of artistic expression. By doing this, I am constantly inspired to achieve even greater heights,

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Most of the time you can catch me behind the drum set for artists in and out of Los Angeles and the US, from festival and stadium stages to dive bars and coffee shops. I find joy anytime I’m sharing a musical moment with people from all walks of earth. Exploring and being able to play music from all over the world enables me to speak many different languages without having to actually learn a new verbal language. It also allows me to learn the different cultures and build long lasting friendship with many people from different parts of the world. If I’m not behind the kit, you can find me creating with others in my studio out in the San Gabriel Valley. I feel it’s important to not only play your music live but also allow yourself to be in a collaborative atmosphere away from the audience with others who share your same vision. Most times that’s where the most magical musical moments happen.

My message to everyone reading this is simple. Take risks (legal ones lol) to find your happiness and achieve your dreams because without risk there is no challenge, and without challenge, there’s no reward.

Always stay creative and stay creating.

All you should know about my art and the projects I’m involved in is that every time I sit behind my drums or behind my computer, it is when I am completely and wholeheartedly me.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I feel like there so many terrible things being highlighted through the media today and there is so much hate and negative things constantly surrounding us; we should all contribute in every way we can to create a more positive and peaceful world. I feel us as artists we should always reflect on current events as music is a great way to communicate and even bigger message.
