Today we’d like to introduce you to Moss Ortega.
Moss, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My name is Moss, founder of Originalgoodstock also known as OG’s we’re originally from San Diego CA. I’ve always been into fashion and streetwear I started off collecting, trading and selling vintage apparel and snap back hats a few years back. My main niche was mainly vintage designer wear and sports snap backs like Los Angeles Raiders to Chicago Bulls, I eventually grew out of reselling vintage and expanded my passion into the independent design in fashion. Then I dove more into production and how garments are made from screen printing, embroidery and cut and sew. As soon as I felt like my knowledge for fashion was enough, I went into branding the brand and creating our iconic logos.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
What I do now for the brand is simply hood fashion that’s acceptable. When I say hood, I mean from areas where it was run down with gangsters and low in once families. Through our apparel, we want to provide nostalgia through what we create and provide higher end materials and ideas but still make it for the average person who is or did grow up less fortunate. Our message is simple we’re a gang. We work together collectively around the city doing pop-ups or events based on the brand and the community. But the difference between a violent gang and us is that we are accepting and want to be the change and positive role models. 2Pac said it best, “Gangs can be positive they just have to steer away from being self-destructive and be self productive.” -2Pac
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
It’s okay to make yourself uncomfortable at times and build a network of people who support what you do and are also in the same profession as you. Something simple to try is to go social events that are happening and make friends, collect phone numbers and repeat that every weekend.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We’re popular through Instagram. Our account is @originalgoodstock. Also, we keep our website/online shop current, and that would be originalgoodstock.com.
