Art & Life with Monica Nemi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Nemi.

Monica, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m originally from Lima Peru and moved to California 16 years ago. I fell in love with an amazing man in Orange County and we were married in Hawaii. I currently live with my husband in Aliso Viejo. We absolutely love Southern California.

I am the youngest of 5 children so by the time I was born my parents had lost interest in taking pictures. We have very few photos from my childhood so I believe that inspired my passion for photography!

Taking the perfect pictures in the perfect moment is so gratifying! I started practicing on my family and my friends and their kids. When I would see the candid and cute memories that I had captured I realized how strong my passion for photography is. I enjoy everything about it!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I think kids are very fun and precious! I have a special connection with them that allows me to bring out their true personalities. I love having that brief but magical connection with each of them. It makes me extremely happy as well which I believe is also present in my photos. I really love what I do and really enjoy seeing the happiness I can bring to a family by capturing beautiful memories!

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
It is good to aim high but also wise to start within your means and work your way up. My first camera was inexpensive and entry level. It took me a while just to learn the features and capabilities of the equipment. If I had started with a more advanced camera setup I would have definitely felt overwhelmed and possibly given up! Photography is not as easy as taking tons of pictures with a good camera and picking the best shots. As with any discipline it is hard work! Creativity, technique, post production and PRACTICE make all of the difference.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I’m not exhibiting my work just yet but someday in the future! I am reachable online via my website, Facebook and Instagram.
