Art & Life with Mazzy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mazzy.

Mazzy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
As the child of an immigrant mother and the grandchild of refugees, I consider myself an advocate for peace, verbally and artistically. This has helped shape how hard I work and has given me a deeper, more mature outlook on the world. Learning how much more difficult things can be has given me a particular perspective and motivated me to take advantage of the choices I have.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As an artist, my objective is to challenge people’s perspectives and long-assumed beliefs. I strive to convey messages of social justice and to foreground domestic and global conflicts, or at least offer a different way of thinking about them. Because a lot of my work is inspired by street art, it is crucial that it is accessible to the general public. My work is primarily street art influenced and is often mixed media based, and includes a variety of mediums such as large pieces of construction wood, abandoned windows, and street posters. I do not think artists necessarily need to subscribe to more conventional mediums, or to use the best canvases or the finest wood, but rather use what is available to them. I think that what is on the piece is what matters. The unusual backgrounds used for my art often tell a more interesting story, turning something used due to lack of resources, into something with meaning. My designs always address a dispute or controversy that we as humans face in today’s world.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success to me is creating art that is true to my vision and inspires a new way of thinking about a pressing political or social issue. As an artist you need to be an original creative thinker who is relentless in pursuing a dream.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
A lot of my work is posted in Los Angeles, mostly in the Venice Beach area. My work can also be seen on my website,, and on Instagram @mazzy_art. People who would like to purchase my art can email me directly at and message me via Instagram.
