Art & Life with Malish Koala

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malish Koala.

Malish, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
It all started two years ago when I was visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida. Everyone was coming up to me, telling me that I’m very cute and asking if they can follow me on Instagram. That day I decided to start an Instagram account where I would post pictures of my adventures. After just a couple of weeks, I realized that there is a big plushie community out there.

One day I made a short Harry Potter style intro for “Malish Koala and the secret of the missing raspberry” just for fun. I wasn’t actually going to make a movie, but everyone started asking what that movie is about and when it’s coming out. That’s how I got the idea to start making movies. During the past two years, I gathered a wonderful team, we are more than a movie crew, we are a family: Kurochka-Petushok, Sovushka, Harry, Lil Sovenushek, and Lemurchik. I wouldn’t be able to do a half of what we’ve achieved together.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a filmmaker. In the past two years, I’ve created eight different movies. From detective mysteries to pirate adventures. I do everything from scripting and filming to editing and visual effects. Then I put my movies on Instagram @malishkoala for plushie community to enjoy. Every movie consists of 5-7 chapters. Every chapter takes about a week to make. Casting is a very big part of it. Every time we announce an audition thousands of plushies from around the world send their submissions. I love how those movies bring everyone together. From participating in casting to a lively discussions after the movie is posted. In the heart of every movie, there is a friendship and compassion, which is sometimes so hard to find in the modern internet culture. I don’t have a specific purpose, I just like making movies, and I was lucky enough to find a community that shares my passion.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
For everyone, success means something different: money, fame, acceptance, or whatever it is you are looking for. For me, being successful is being able to do what I love to do. I think as long as you are true to your art, you will be successful. With that being said, it is very important not to give up and pursue your dream and not let anyone or anything discourage you. It is hard sometimes, but that’s why we have friends, to help us see the brighter side.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I post all my movies on my Instagram page @malishkoala and when all the chapters of the movie are out, I put them together and post on youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmkRfARAliDByTCIeYgNkdw.
