Art & Life with Katee Grace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katee Grace.

Katee, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was 14 I went on a trip to Thailand to do humanitarian work among some smaller villages with a medial group. Being 14 I was assisting with things but also playing with the children at the different stops. I had a 110 camera that was very basic and as I pulled it out with some of the kids when we were just getting acquainted, I found that the camera was a way to connect with people without language and even break the ice. When I got home I saw that some of the photos were actually really good and I was proud of them.

As I began the college journey I did a lot of soul searching on what could I truly see myself doing and the one thing I kept coming back to was photography. I hadn’t taken one class during high school because it wasn’t offered but I had gotten an SLR camera and thankfully had a friend who loved to pose so she became my muse and remains my best friend to this day.

I made the decision to attend art school and enrolled at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara and moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to the West Coast.

I have always been in love with documenting a person, a personality, telling stories of individuals, families, and just stories in general so my business has been largely focused as a lifestyle photography brand working with families and lifestyle brands on memories and strong visual imagery.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I love diversity in my portfolio and find this to be something that many of my clients really appreciate. And showing the life and love within a person, family or brand that shows everyone they have a place and deserve love and belonging and happiness. I want people to see themselves in my photos before they are even in them, I want them to be drawn in emotionally by the life of my images.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success to me is serving my clients well and them being thrilled with their images, whether for work or personal. If it’s a family, I want them to see their children’s truest personalities at this stage of life, I want them to see the love their family shares with one another in a beautiful, natural manner. For work with brands, I see success as achieving visual goals together as they have been laid out and working together as team to create strong visual content that speaks with ease.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My Website KateeGrace.Com or Instagram, though my Instagram can be a little neglected. I have been published in numerous publications and TV appearances including a segment on Style Network and a piece this past winter with FOX 11 LA.
