Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Cariaga.
Justin, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Art is all around us. In this life long journey, I have encountered many experiences and people along the way. All of the moments and thoughts of making art has led to this path.
Once I was tattooed I always wondered about how you go about getting into something like this. Never seen it as a college elective. Two very special people in my life encouraged me to follow this ancient art of marking. Once I tattooed myself I gained all these experience points and proved that I can do this. The fact that there is no erasing and you can’t control z and undo, got burned into my mind real quick. Every tattoo is a learning experience.
Please tell us about your art.
I make tattoos. My favorite style is geometric blackwork. Being in a street shop you have to be versatile for whatever comes through that door. At times it’s an artist/ client collaboration, so there’s a lot of communication going back and forth. Sometimes you get to do designs you make which are way fulfilling. No matter the design I always try to put forth my best. Educating the clients about the process will only benefit both parties.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Practice hard and always believe in yourself. Self-confidence is way important and stays humble.
