Art & Life with Gabriel Lucido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Lucido.

Gabriel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started out working on Chapman University short films with my brother Anthony Lucido who was a student there. On the side, I was also working on comedy videos with my friends from our high school and making music videos. After I graduated, I went to Cal State Fullerton, left after a month and used the rest of my college fund to buy a Red camera which I rented out as a primary source of income.

During that time, I met my future wife and we’re due to get married this year where all the groomsmen will be photographers or cinematographers. I kept renting out the Red camera and began filming weddings on the side using a Blackmagic Pocket Camera with my friend Kevin Shanmugam.

After a while, my Dad needed a food photographer for one of his clients so Kevin and I shot all the photos and it went so well that my Dad ended up offered to let me use a room in his office as a studio and later hired me onto his company shooting Food Photography as the Senior Studio Manager. I made a website for my wedding videographer (www.gabriellucido.com) and made a website for the food photography studio (www.studioxmi.com).

After all, that I sold the Red because it was collecting dust and bought a 1DX Mark ii to meet all my photography and videography needs.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create wedding videos and shoot food photography. With both of those professions, I enjoy the process of setting up the gear, finding the angle, capturing the images and going through the editing process and creating something interesting.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Marketing yourself as an artist, it’s very hard to get the word out about your work.
