Art & Life with Gabriel Enamorado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Enamorado.

Gabriel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Art and design have always played a role in my life. I would choose to stay in and create something over playing tag in the street with my friends. By the third grade, I became entrepreneurial and began to sell my drawings of cars for $3. By middle school, I was obsessed with Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon, and I had a sketchbook dedicated to each series. Every page, dedicated to each character. Iʼm glad to say I still have those books.

In high school, graffiti burst into the scene as a dominant trend, and I simultaneously discovered graphic, print and web design. I became a devoted graffiti writer and full-time nerd. As my skill progressed, my network expanded and the connections I made in my first few years have resulted in endless projects and clients today. The golden rule is universal.

As the years went on, documenting my work became a priority. The camera was the only way to capture the pieces I painted, knowing they would be removed or painted over. With time, I began to turn my lens towards my cityʼs landscape and the timeless moments of the people in it.

From 2012 to 2016, I was the founder and creative director of Stay Gallery, a nonprofit organization and creative space. There, I established its brand, designed the space, and created and oversaw its events and workshops. I also operated Stay Studio, an in-house design studio, where we developed the brand identity for the City of Downey, Downey Unified School District, the local newspaper and several other organizations.

Wanting to further explore my potential, I left the organization to create Estevan Studio. Estevan is a forward-thinking creative studio that offers graphic design, photography and web development for businesses and organizations seeking to evolve their brand for the digital age. I recently returned to Stay Gallery as Executive Director, where I will oversee the galleryʼs exhibits, workshops and events.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I have acquired a passion for using my knowledge to clearly communicate through design, language, and photography.

As a designer, I have helped people realize their vision through the power of design. I create brands for businesses and organizations and inadvertently become the creative director for all of my clients, where I develop and manage every aspect of a brandʼs visual language. My work embodies a vast array of design disciplines, including but not limited to: brand identity design, graphic design, web design & development, print design, apparel design, interior design, and custom artwork. My unique experience in building businesses provides me with an insightful approach to design and how it could be utilized to perform.

As a photographer, I capture peopleʼs most memorable and intimate moments, from their wedding day to their first birthday. Naturally, photography has found its way into my design work, combining each practice for products and campaigns.

I approach all of my work from a selfless point of view. Design has taught me that nothing good is ever done alone, and allowing for critique to flow freely and not taking anything personally only results in a better outcome.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
You have to acknowledge that the work is never over. Success means knowing that the only constant we have is ourselves. Success is not letting the losses stop you from trying again. Success is knowing that failure actually means another lesson. Ego and pain go hand in hand. View both as tools and chip away at each. You are nothing. You are everything. You are human. You are comprised of millions of years worth of upgrades. You are the result of everything life itself has attempted to become. Know that and you will realize that you have already attained it.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
All of my work can be found on my website, and I constantly update my story and posts on Instagram. Soon enough, Stay Gallery will also fall under the umbrella of projects I manage.
