Art & Life with Eric Michael

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Michael.

Eric Michael was born and raised in the humble streets of Caricuao, a district of Caracas, Venezuela. In 1995, he migrated to the United States in search of the coveted American Dream. Growing up, he worked hard to adapt to his new home without losing sight of his roots. The internal struggle of bridging cultural differences without undermining either one’s significance created the foundation for his work.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Eric Michael is a contemporary artist exploring the use of various materials and iconography as he creates thought-provoking images that address an array of issues affecting humanity.

Although nearsighted and color blind, Eric Michael is able to intricately and distinctly examine pre existing canons from a unique perspective. His art has the ability to extraordinarily bring these focal points to life through a new perceptual lens of social economic and political paradoxes. His goal is to bring awareness and create new social paradigms and inspire change.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
Art has become more accessible in conjunction with the growth of social media. What was once revered by an exclusive elite group can now be viewed by the masses with a touch of a screen. Technology has made it easier for emerging artists to gain a following and showcase work with audiences worldwide. It has granted artists the opportunity to operate independently by providing several options of monetizing one’s work.
