Art & Life with Emily Brody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Brody.

Emily, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am currently a student at California Lutheran University. I started off as an exercise science major and spent a year taking all science classes when I realized that I was going crazy not doing something that expands my creativity. I became so bored with my routine and felt so trapped that I changed my major and began studying multimedia design. This had opened me up to a world of graphic design that started my career as an aspiring artist.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I consider myself a graphic artist/designer because I am all about the aesthetics. I want my art to capture a certain mood whether it’s what I am actually drawing or the color scheme, I want someone to look at what I created and say “wow, I feel that”. I get a lot of inspiration from other artists on Instagram, but I also get inspiration from the music I’m listening to and specific things like Playboy and Kacey Musgraves.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
As an artist in 2019, I feel that we have the responsibility to use our creative voice to spread social information. Not only am I a solo artist but I am also a woman and I want other people like me to see my art and feel like they have a friend and that they are not alone.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I post most of my artwork on my Instagram @elizababyblue. My favorite type of art to make is a poster because I love having structure. My favorite part of being a graphic art student is that I get an assignment set of rules and then I am free to do whatever I want with that information. I love being able to capture the vibe of a show and let the audience know how fun the show will be just by looking at the poster. I want my art to make people excited.
