Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Brynn.
Alison, please share your story with us.
Alison Brynn Photography was founded on an act of love. When we received an Autism Diagnosis for our son, I knew I had to put my passion of photography to the test- for the love of my son- to be able to provide for those needs (and expenses) that come along with a diagnosis. I have been passionate about photography since the age of 10, when my aunt (a photojournalist) would teach me how to properly expose on film and take me to her dark room to develop the photographs afterwards. Since then, photography has always been close to my heart. My first job out of high school was as a photographer for JcPenny Portrait (remember those?!) and from then on, I was in and out of studios until the age of 24. It was always my dream to have my own photography business, but honestly, I was terrified to make that huge leap. What finally motivated and pushed me to pursue my dream was my son’s diagnosis. I just knew I had to try. If he was trying in this world where he’s looked as “different”, the least I could do was try this crazy idea, to be able to provide for him! It was honestly the best decision I’ve made. I have my dream job as a wedding and portrait photographer, and I still get to spend my days with my kids! Because of this, I am fully devoted to passing this love on to my clients and serving them to the best of my ability!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a natural light, wedding and portrait photographer! I use natural light to create sweet, fresh, natural looking photographs to document those most important milestones in life. I absolutely love giving my clients beautiful images to look back on and cherish for years to come. I believe that soft, natural light perfectly captures those feelings/emotions of love and happiness (kind of like when you wake up on a Saturday morning, when you see that soft morning light seeping into the room, and all is right with the world! *insert ALL the heart eyes*). This is why I have specialized in natural light; to create those creamy and dreamy photographs my clients love. My hope is that you FEEL the love and joy in the photographs.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I TOTALLY get it. Finances were one of the biggest factors (and fears) when deciding to take on a creative field. That phrase “starving artist” was engraved into me from childhood, so it was terrifying making the decision to pursue an artistic career. Honestly, finances were what was keeping me from starting my business, and I am lucky enough to have a supportive husband that helps with business expenses. My advice for those who are struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns would be to not give up! It takes time, dedication, and passion. Work on your art when you can, and network as much as possible! It’s amazing where a little networking can get you- and it’s free. Surround yourself with a strong support group that believes in your dreams. As your savings grows, and following an artistic path is something you want to do, slowly shift into that direction. Blood, sweat and tears go into building and caring for a business, so don’t get discouraged when things don’t go the way you thought they would. We have all had, and continue to have, our ups and downs as artists and business owners, but love and faith will pull you through.
