Their meals often come with soup, their rice is sometimes basmati

Elevated but authentic, non-snobby Mexcian food – we’ve never seen anything like this place

Excellent, house chips & salsa

Huge portions, friendly staff, very inexpensive

Decent mariachi band on some nights

Free salsa is so good we order bean & cheese burrito a la carte and dump cup of salsa all over it.  Good & cheap.


8. El Cholo

Why we love them:

They’ve been here forever. Classic LA Mexican spot

Ask to sit at the world famous nacho table for free nachos (Western Ave location)
